An Intersection of Art, Science and the love of Food
Birte Schulenberg Art (BSA) is my fun project to share some of my work with you, that I hope will inspire additional people to be creative and explore. BSA is also an acronym for one of the most ubiquitous proteins used in biological sciences and cows (bovine serum albumin).

A passion for Creative Approaches through connecting Art and Science
Science is an approach to finding new solutions. understanding the how and creating new materials. Science has no boundaries and connects people across the world, no matter their background or language. The same is true for food and art.

Art through colour
I love vibrant colours, but also enjoy the power ball and white Photography, which at first might appear to be a contradiction.
Colours create interest and contrast and when “translated” from a color spectrum to a greyscale, sometime the most unusual color combinations as experienced by the observer in real life lead to the most contrast rich and interesting black and white photographs. Depending on what the subject is, I might chose to only portrait it in black and white (like cars, mechanical objects or sometimes landscapes), while other naturally live through their color (like flowers).
Art in Food
I enjoy trying new food choices with a grown love for asian food, especially from South East Asia. The simplicity of the process combined with the complexity of spices available in the region is leading to amazing dishes. Apparently simple dishes, such as Hainanese chicken rice take a long time master to bring out the moisture in the chicken when served cold with the fragrant rice. Other personal favorites include Wonton Noodle soup.
A little background
I have a Masters in Biology and a PhD in Biochemistry, but never lost my love for Art and Design. Over many years I have found that those two are rather additive than clashing with each other as very much science is not 100% data driven, but also requires a lot of “gut instinct” and creative thinking. In addition, there is a lot of Beauty from an art perspective when looking at details through a microscope. Take a look here at some images or references to better illustrate the connection.
